Inside the Lab: Bright Minds, Bold Science
Meet the experts driving the next generation of cancer therapy
Behind every innovation in cancer therapy, there is a team of researchers asking bold questions and building the tools to answer them. Today, we are excited to launch a new website series that brings their work and vision into focus: Inside the Lab: Bright Minds, Bold Science.
This series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the scientists powering SCALPEL — a multidisciplinary research initiative working to revolutionise how we treat cancer. By combining the forces of photomedicine, immunology, synthetic and porphyrin chemistry, and protein engineering, SCALPEL aims to develop a new dual-action therapy that can both eliminate tumour bulk and destroy residual cancer cells — significantly reducing the risk of recurrence.
But what truly sets this effort apart is the people behind it.
“The biggest appeal of cancer research is trying to solve a big problem for humanity and save lives that are prematurely lost,” says Dr. Theodossis Theodossiou, Project Coordinator at Oslo Universitetssykehus HF. “It is a big scientific puzzle that comes with the prize of a great benefit for mankind. Especially in terminal diseases which are currently incurable.”
In our first feature, Dr. Theodossiou shares what motivates him, why collaboration is key to tackling one of medicine’s greatest challenges and gives a shout out to Star Wars.
Whether you are a fellow researcher, a future partner or simply curious about how science is changing the future of cancer care, Inside the Lab offers a compelling window into the minds advancing this ambitious mission — and a preview of the breakthroughs to come.
Discover the series and stay tuned for more interviews and insights from the SCALPEL team
